I took early retirement, after 25 years in the classroom. I am passionate about language learning and offer private tuition in order to share my knowledge with other language enthusiasts. I have a BA Hons. degree in French and French studies and have also a good knowledge of Spanish. I have travelled widely and spent time in French, Spanish and German schools learning about their systems and teaching methods. I am considered an excellent teacher with many of my students achieving the highest grades. 2023 results. A for student doing A level French. 9, 6, 6, 5 from my GCSE students. Very pleased!
I have taught French in three different secondary schools in the North East area over 25 years. (Head of department for the last 15) I have also taught KS 3 Spanish. I am an experienced marker/examiner for AQA and EDEXCEL (Pearson’s) I have experience of teaching adult beginners, both one to one and in a class group.
My approach depends on the students goal. Every lesson builds on knowledge gained in the lesson before. For KS3 and 4 students, as well as communication, I put a strong emphasis on understanding grammar as this is essential for future study and for being able to say exactly what you want to say. I give equal coverage of the four skills listening, speaking, reading and writing and use as much target language as my student is comfortable with. I usually teach in my own home in Ingleby Barwick.
