I would describe myself as hard working, adaptable, personable, organised and dedicated to the learning of my pupils. Mathematics is a subject I love and excelled at in school, so I am motivated to inspire students to enjoy Maths, a subject that is often negatively perceived. I believe the skills that are embodied in Mathematics, such as logical thinking and problem solving, are just as important as the content.
I have been Head of Department, KS4 Curriculum Leader and a Maths teacher during my 10 years of teaching in Secondary Schools.
I have taught:
KS3 Maths
GCSEs: Maths and Statistics
iGCSEs: Maths, Additional Maths
IB: Maths Standard Level
Also willing and able to tutor A Level or KS2 Maths.
My most recent school has achieved some of the best GCSE results in Manchester for progress in maths. My classes have always achieved excellent results.
For 3 years, I taught at a highly reputable international school in China. During this time, I was Head of Department / Interim Head of department and KS4 curriculum leader.
I am dedicated to getting the best out of my pupils by adapting my sessions to the needs of each pupil, as every pupil is different and so lessons should reflect this. I aim to develop a pupils' knowledge and ability in maths but most importantly to improve their confidence with the subject. I appreciate that maths is a subject that students' often feel anxious about and so it is part of my role to help them believe that they can achieve in the subject. I aim to build pupil's confidence by viewing maths as building blocks. Often pupils' struggle because the prior knowledge is not embedded well enough to move to the next step. I aim to fill these gaps and misconceptions to ensure learning is understood before moving on. In the sessions we might refresh knowledge from previous learning, consolidate new learning or look to future learning to build pupil's confidence before it is taught.
