I have a background in Educational and Academic Publishing, working with schools and higher education institutions to deliver curricula. In 1992 I set up a freelance business offering editorial services specialising in the copy-editing and project management of Modern Languages textbooks.
I have taught English to non-native speakers in secondary schools in France and the UK, and I taught English to undergraduates at the Université de Rennes 1. For eleven years I have been privately tutoring students in key stages 2, 3 and 4 in preparation for French Common Entrance and GCSE examinations, as well as adults looking to start French from scratch or to consolidate previous knowledge.
My approach is to establish clear and manageable targets for my students, to create a positive attitude to learning French and to foster confidence regardless of ability. Typically in a first lesson I get to know a student, find out what their motivations are and then propose a carefully tailored programme with sensible goals. My aim is for students to enjoy learning French. All lessons are planned around the specific needs of each student and are paced accordingly. I support students outside school as well as teaching students independently.
