I am a qualified teacher with over ten years of experience teaching in primary schools. I graduated in 2011 with a BA in English and Spanish from the University of Southampton. I gained my PGCE in 2014 from the Institute of Education. I have since taught in primary schools in London, Nottingham and Buckinghamshire.

I can offer additional support in all aspects of the primary curriculum, including extra help in phonics, reading and handwriting. I can tailor my tutoring to meet the needs of the pupil, making it fun and engaging and based around their own interests.

I can help pupils to gain confidence in their academic skills and enjoy the process of learning.

In addition to support at primary level, I can tutor pupils in English and Spanish up to GCSE level. I have a degree in English and Spanish and spent a year teaching English as a foreign language in a Spanish secondary school.

Tutoring Approach

Primary Tuition:

KS1 - I will listen carefully to the needs and interests of the individual pupil. I can then create lessons based around them in order to best engage and inspire the pupil. I have a range of interactive resources, including visual, audio and kinaesthetic resources when needed. Having taught in primary schools for seven years, I have an excellent understanding of the kind of teaching techniques that really inspire and motivate young learners. For example, if a pupil struggles with letter formation we would practice making the letters out of playdough, painting the letters, making a collage of the letters...before putting pen to paper. If your child needs extra support in reading, I am particularly skilled in teaching phonics. I can help build your child's confidence in learning, writing and reading new sounds. This will directly support the phonics lessons your child will be receiving at school. Extra support in phonics can really help increase your child's confidence with reading and inspire a life-long love of books. I will also work with the parents/carers of the child to give them confidence in helping their child with phonics at home by providing easy and fun ideas for phonics practice.

KS2 - With KS2 learners, I tutor in both English and Maths. As well as an initial conversation with the pupil and parent, I will do an initial assessment with them to identify any areas they need to work on. In English, we can focus on areas such as specific aspects of grammar, constructing sentences, creative writing, reading comprehension and proof reading work. In maths, I can ensure the pupil has a sound understanding of basic mathematical concepts before moving on to more complex topics. I can help with learning multiplication and division facts through games and songs. I always use lots of real life examples when teaching maths to make learning more meaningful and applicable to every day life. With both English and Maths, I can support any topic identified by the pupil or school teacher as an area to be improved. I will keep the learning fun, engaging and linked to the pupil's interests.

Secondary Tuition: I can tutor Spanish and English at secondary level. In Spanish, we will focus on building a strong bank of essential vocabulary. I will help the pupil with effective ways of memorising vocabulary. We will also work on improving grammar, reading, writing and speaking skills. I can of course help the pupil with their exams in Spanish but I also hope them to really enjoy learning a second language which they will hopefully use in their future! In English, I can help build confidence through methods such as speaking and listening practice, creative writing, study skills and essay writing. Again, these skills will all help with exams but I hope to also create a life long love of reading.

English Language Learning: I can support pupils from beginners to advanced levels of English language learning. I can help with speaking and listening, vocabulary practice, reading and writing in English. I have lots of experience of teaching pupils who are learning English as a second language whilst working as a teacher in Spain.

I have 2 children - a 4 year old and 10 month old. I live in Eton Wick and am happy to travel locally to tutor or I offer sessions from our house. During lockdown, I delivered many sessions online and am happy to continue doing this. All the arrangements can be discussed when we first speak.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
