I am an English teacher at Eton College, having previously taught at Harrow School. I graduated with a first in English Language and Literature from Lincoln College Oxford, where I was first a Mark Pattinson Exhibitioner and, for my continued academic achievement, a Lord Crewe Scholar.
The nature of my degree meant I studied each period of English Literature. Consequently, I am capable of teaching across a wide variety of texts and time periods.
In addition, I have experience working in professional theatre both as a director and within a literary department.
I have experience teaching across a wide range of ages and abilities, both as a tutor and teacher of English at the Secondary Level.
I was a Postgraduate Master of English at Harrow School for the academic year 2020-21. I now teach at Eton College.
My approach prioritises, what I think is, one of the most important reasons for studying English at Secondary Level. Namely, reading’s ability to widen students’ perspectives, allowing them to view the world from a number of different angles.
I believe that literature is best understood and appreciated when pupils are given a frame of reference. Too often texts are studied in isolation and, consequently, are presented in a manner devoid of relevance to young people. I aim to teach in a method that juxtaposes the close study of language with extracts of history, art, music, and contemporary reference.
