I am a Dutch national living in the UK and provide tutoring in both English and Dutch. I currently teach Latin and Classical Civilisation at a secondary school in London and tutor students across Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5 to support them in their preparation for GCSEs, A-Levels, as well as Prep School applications. I enjoy teaching Classics as it is one of the most interesting and intriguing topics to study and am keen to enthuse my students into engaging with the Ancient World.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring since 2019 in Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation. I have taught the students between the ages of 8 all the way up to 19 and adapt my teaching to suit your individual needs. I have also taught children whose first language, for whom I tend to use some spoken Latin techniques (so as to not be held back by lack of English vocabulary) as well as interative translation activities so as to simulataneously develop their English alongside their Latin. I have taught students who did not have access to Latin or Classics at their school or without any prior knowledge, students who were looking to catch up (sometimes before transferring to a new school where the subject was offered), as well as students who were in need of extra support alongside their school's curriculum.

Tutoring Approach

I always adapt my teaching to suit the needs to the individual student, which begins at assessing their prior knowledge and learning style. I am a linguist at heart and train my students to develop a profound understanding of the grammar of ancient languages. I apply metacognitive strategies in my lessons, which will support my students into developing their own independent understanding of their own learning, progress and thinking. This allows students to be in charge of their own learning and understand what strategies work for them and which do not, which will gradually allow for a more independent approach.
