Cesar Augusto

I am a mechanical engineer by training, a results-driven and highly skilled professional, with strong R&D experience leveraging the synergies of Academia and Industry through successful collaborations, supporting students and workers in achieving academic and professional success while fulfilling organisational objectives.

With a background as a Research Fellow and Teaching Fellow in Engineering, I have taught and tutored at esteemed institutions such as Oxford Brookes University, the University of Hertfordshire, and University College London. These roles have equipped me with the experience and insight to effectively guide learners at various levels.

Originally from Peru, I am a native Spanish speaker and have experience teaching Spanish to expatriates and foreign professionals. I moved to the UK to pursue a Master's degree and later a PhD, following a successful engineering career in Latin America with several multinational companies.

In the UK, I have worked in Academia, Biotech, and Life Sciences sectors. My recent job has been in a global Medical Device and Biotech company, where I held leadership roles including Group Leader of Engineering Product & Technology Development and Manager of Engineering Services & Technical Support.

Currently, I am further enhancing my skills by pursuing an MBA (part-time), having returned to student life in September 2023.

Tutoring Experience

During the final two years of my undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering, and continuing after graduation, I worked as a tutor and examination trainer for a range of engineering subjects, including Mathematical Analysis I and II, Physics I, II, and III, Engineering Drawing I and II, Machine Elements, and Fluid Mechanics.

Later, while pursuing my PhD, I took on lecturing responsibilities that included delivering lessons, leading tutorials, and assessing students in both undergraduate and postgraduate modules. These included Modelling & Analysis in Engineering II (BSc), Applied Thermodynamics & Turbomachinery, and Advanced Computer Applications in Engineering – CFD (MSc).

My teaching activities extended into my postdoctoral roles as a Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University, the University of Hertfordshire, and University College London, where I also held titles such as Teaching Associate and Honorary Lecturer (UCL).

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (awarded in 2015) and am a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA), formerly known as the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is rooted in a positive, solution-focused mindset. I believe it is essential to first understand how each student best assimilates information. By tailoring my support to their individual learning style, I work collaboratively with them to ensure that every key step in the learning process is clearly understood.

I see knowledge as a series of building blocks—without a strong foundation, progress can be unstable. My role is to help students reinforce that foundation and build confidence as they advance. I firmly believe that everyone is capable of learning; sometimes, they just need the right guidance and support when they encounter challenges.
