Hi my name is Cerys, and I have recently finished an undergraduate in History at Lancaster University, achieving a first class. I am currently completing a postgraduate in History. My motivation to succeed has propelled me to be elected to Fylde College President at Lancaster University and Club Captain Fylde College Netball. I have also spearheaded a national campaign and was a member of Youth Parliament for a number of years.
During my school years I was a Peer Mentor and Prefect, where I supported students pastorally and academically. In University, I frequently managed teams of people and single-handedly organised 18- evening events and 9- day activities in a week. Both my parents are also secondary school teachers and so I have learned a lot from them.
What drew me to History was how it explained how the world is today. By studying History, you can begin to understand such things as why there are four countries within the United Kingdom or the legacy the Cold War has left. This fascination has led me to pursue a postgraduate in the subject. I work to instil this fascination in my students as well. It's not just something to study, but an investigation into what really happened and how it affects us.
This fascination allowed me to persevere in History, despite not getting it straight away in school. I learned to break down every component in the topic so that I may have a deeper comprehension of the subject. This has taught me to become a more effective Tutor as I understand the obstacles to understanding a topic. With my client, we investigate every component to overcome those obstacles.
