I am a highly experienced and well-qualified teacher, offering my professional tutoring skills to KS4 students. I have been commended by Ofsted as an 'Outstanding Teacher'
and can provide evidence of these commendations, along with professional references and a full CV.
Tutoring Experience
Please note that, in order to focus on delivering the best possible quality exam board-targeted tuition, I will only be accepting new students in Years 10 and 11 who are sitting AQA English Language and AQA English Literature. Thank you.
I can't think of any other job that I could enjoy more than teaching! Since qualifying as a teacher in 1983, I have taught across the education spectrum: Adult Education, 16 - 18, KS3 and KS4, and children with SEN/ASD. I have supported KS1 and KS2 children with specific learning difficulties and have taught children out of school with medical, behavioral, and emotional difficulties.
I'm a career teacher with a 'pedigree'! Both of my parents were Head Teachers, so I grew up immersed in the culture, ethos, and the immense value and importance of teaching.
The part of my job I enjoy most of all is working one-to-one with children or adults who really need some extra help and support. Building the confidence of a learner, adult or child, and seeing them begin to grasp ideas they once found difficult and move confidently forward is probably one of the most satisfying things you can do as a teacher.
I have a particular interest in handwriting development, and I studied for the National Handwriting Association Diploma at the University of London Institute of Education. I am a member of the NHA and am registered with the NHA as a Handwriting Specialist Teacher.
Throughout my career, I have taught students sitting their GCSEs in English Language and Literature with: AQA, OCR, Edexcel, Eduqas/WJEC, CIE (Cambridge iGCSE), and am therefore fully familiar and experienced in working with all GCSE English syllabuses. However, I now focus solely on tutoring students sitting AQA Language and Literature exams. I made this decision to deliver the best possible exam-board-focused tuition in order to maximise exam success opportunities for all students of all abilities.
Additionally, I have recent experience of successfully tutoring adult student learners towards the English Equivalency Test and GESE Citizenship Examination.
Tutoring Approach
My approach to tutoring is very learner-centered. Through discussions with parents and the child (or adult learner), it becomes clear which learning style will be most effective, productive, and enjoyable. I am flexible in my approach to learning styles, and my aim is to be as creative, imaginative, and stimulating as possible while ensuring that the learning outcome is successfully achieved.
I enjoy sourcing and producing high-quality differentiated resources to support each tutee's learning experience. All my students have free access to the online platform I use to deliver our lessons.
I have a proven record of excellent results, with all of my 'one-to-one' students (of all academic abilities) achieving Grade 5 and above at GCSE, and a significant proportion of my students achieving Grades 8 and 9.
I am Enhanced DBS checked (formerly known as CRB). To comply with safeguarding guidance, all communications with my tutees are copied to parents.
Please be assured that certificate evidence of all my professional qualifications has been submitted to and checked by 'First Tutors'.

Here are just a couple of examples of the very positive feedback left for me by satisfied parents:
FROM JAMES:
'Ceri is our gold standard tutor. She has helped our daughter achieve a brilliant result with language and literature. Her teaching style is innovative, and she really engages her pupils; 21st-century tutoring at its best.'
FROM QAMER:
'Outstanding teacher! My son was predicted 6/7 in GCSE, and with tuition from Ceri, he achieved straight 9's. Ceri provided extra tuition to my son in English Language and English Literature GCSE. Ceri was always well-prepared and provided excellent resources. Her teaching style is very friendly, and I found that she adapts to the required style. I found Ceri passionate about her subject and always willing to go that extra mile. I am very pleased with Ceri and would highly recommend her without any hesitation.'
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, and I'll reply to you as promptly as possible.
