I am a freelance tutor and university tutor/lecturer with experience working on a 1:1 and group basis up to and including university level. Alongside tutoring, I teach undergraduate students in the Film, Theatre and Television department at The University of Reading, the Media, Communications and Cultural Studies department at Goldsmiths, University of London, and the Arts and Sciences department at UCL.
I have a BA in English and History of Art from the University of Leeds (2:1), a Research MA in Arts and Culture from the University of Amsterdam (Distinction), and I am in the final year of a PhD in Film, Theatre and Television at the University of Reading where I am writing about the Irish playwright Samuel Beckett alongside the work of various visual artists.
I also work as a freelance writer, copywriter and editor with experience across journalism, publishing, press, marketing and advertising.
In my free time I enjoy seeing friends, reading, drawing, going to exhibitions and swimming!
I have experience working with and supporting children and young adults across secondary and university level. I am particularly experienced in supporting students with essay planning, writing and technique.
I have recently helped students secure places on History of Art, Media, Culture and Creative Industries degrees at prestigious universities including the University of Edinburgh, The University of St Andrews, UCL, The Courtauld Institute, The University of York and King's College London.
Since 2020, I have worked as an Associate Lecturer and Senior Postgraduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Reading, Goldsmiths, University of London and UCL, where I design and deliver group classes and 1:1 tutorials, facilitate discussion, and mark and provide feedback on student work.
My experience teaching across a range of subjects and working in seminar and tutorial environments has taught me that with compassionate, patient and creative support, every student can carve their own path of success.
With a passion for disentangling ideas and creating practical plans for ambitious goals, I am confident that I can help students reach their potential. The first session will be dedicated to discussing the areas of the subject the student is finding challenging and would like help with, as well as the areas they might enjoy more, before making a plan for the upcoming weeks/months.
I am aware of the stress and anxiety that can accompany academic study. My approach aims to alleviate this.
If any of this sounds like it could be useful for you, and you would like to discuss tutoring (in person or online) please do get in touch.
