Private Maths and English Tuition in Livingston

I am an experienced Primary School Teacher who has been tutoring since 2017. I taught for over 25 years in Primary Schools, mainly working with children with additional support needs but also as a mainstream teacher. I have also supported adults to improve their literacy and numeracy skills. More recently, I have been tutoring full-time, teaching English, Maths, plus English as a Second Language with children and adults. I enjoy helping others, whether children or adults, to achieve their potential. What really motivates me is helping to improve someone's self-esteem by supporting them to change "I can't" into "I can".
I can tutor subjects at Primary skill level, particularly basic literacy and numeracy. I can also support the acquisition of English as a Foreign Language.

Tutoring Experience

I have a Bachelor of Education Degree (2:1 Honours), Qualified Teacher Status for the Primary age range, a Diploma in Special Educational Needs and a Level 5 TEFL Cambridge Certificate. Whilst teaching in the England, Wales, Scotland and the US, I worked in large mainstream classes across the whole Primary range and with small groups or individuals within the additional learning needs sector. I have worked with children with moderate learning difficulties, dyslexia and those with a range of complex needs, including ADHD, autism, behavioural difficulties and communication disorders. As a Prison Instructor and voluntary tutor with Adult Learning, I have also supported adults with learning difficulties. As a tutor, I have taught Primary level skills in Maths and English plus English as a Second Language to beginners. I have a proven track record of getting learners, with a range of learning difficulties or with none, to achieve success and an intrinsic motivation to learn. I can provide testimonials from parents who have been happy with my tutoring work.

Tutoring Approach

I motivate learners to reach their potential, by making lessons relevant and enjoyable. I conduct baseline and ongoing assessments that inform the formation of agreed goals and then plan lessons that are tailor made to meet individual needs. I provide a positive, friendly, supportive and professional environment with regular feedback. Learning is broken down into manageable steps. By experiencing success, learners are encouraged to become more confident in tackling challenging goals.

I am available to work online, via Zoom, or to come to your home. With Zoom lessons we are able to share files, PowerPoints and whiteboards throughout the lesson and this has proven to be a very successful platform for lessons. Please note that if I travel to your home for the session, I charge a mileage allowance of 45p/mile (for the round trip) on top of the session fee of £35.
