Hi! My name is Cata Removed, and I am a PhD student in Urban Geography at the LSE. I am a former secondary teacher, published writer, and current graduate teaching assistant in the geography department at my uni. I am passionate about all things social science and language. I offer tutoring in subjects like geography, Spanish, sociology, and history. I’m here to help you learn how to prioritise and efficiently digest your reading, prepare for class discussion, and organise your ideas to produce high-quality essays.
I have been an educator in student facing roles since 2016. I started out as a private tutor and student advisor while earning my undergraduate degree in International Studies from Georgetown University. I then took on a role as a lead classroom instructor and department chair, teaching Spanish/Latin American Geography at the secondary level. I earned my masters in Urban Geography at the LSE while working as an academic writing consultant. I am currently a PhD student at the LSE, where I also work as a graduate teaching assistant.
Through these varied roles, I’ve been able to gain a great deal of experience with lesson planning and differentiated learning, and I’ve built up an arsenal of studying best practice to help my students achieve success. I’ve been working in the social sciences for the entirety of my career, and am passionate about helping students understand and communicate about important concepts in our complex human world so that they are prepared for academic and career success.
Due to my years of diverse experience as a lead classroom teacher, tutor, and writing consultant, I have first hand experience with understanding the value of personalised learning and the opportunity to receive instruction tailored to your unique learning style. As such, I base my lesson plans around student-centred learning models and differentiated instruction. I work with a small number of tutees at any given time in order to be able to dedicate adequate time to developing personalised lessons that align with each student's specific goals and meet them at their unique starting point. I think it’s important to make use of a student’s prior knowledge as a foundational building block from which to grow, so I would really love to get to know you, the subject matter you already feel passionate about, and the way you prefer to learn.
I also know that essay writing can be a daunting task for many students who have really fantastic ideas in their heads but get a bit overwhelmed when it comes to translating them to paper, so I like to lean on my years of experience as a writing consultant to provide support in essay structuring and academic language use as well.
