I am a qualfied Maths and Physics Teacher and have a BSc Joint Honours in Maths and Physics and an MSc in Microelectronics. I have over 14 years experience as a professional tutor to GCSE and A level students, so I am familiar with all major exam boards' syllabuses. I enjoy tutoring, getting to know my students and helping them develop their understanding and gain confidence. I'm enthusiastic about the subjects I teach, which I aim to make accessible and interesting and completely understandable. I'm also patient, and fully committed to my students' learning and achievement, leading to successful results in their exams.
I have over 14 years experience as a tutor to students of all levels from KS3 to A level and Undergraduate. I have taught students with a wide range of needs, including those with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalcula and autism (Asperger's syndrome), as well as those with just low confidence. I have previously worked as a Lecturer in Maths Physics to undergraduates, a Maths Teacher in schools, and a violin teacher. I have also worked as an examiner of A level Physics papers.
I first assess a student's individual needs, by getting to know them and asking a few questions. I have a lot of experience in assessing and understanding different student's needs quickly. For many students a lack of confidence in a few areas can lead to less interest in the subject and therefore lower achievement levels than those they are capable of. Some students have missed lessons at school or college for a variety of reasons and I am always keen to help bridge any gaps in their knowledge and understanding. Regarding strengths and weaknesses: I always build on students' strengths and make sure that any weaknesses they may have are strengthened too.
I generally have a problem-solving approach to teaching which gives the subjects I teach interest, context and meaning. It also gives my students plenty of practice and confidence in answering a variety of questions which prepares them for any kind of question thrown at them in exams! I know that students learn more when they find a subject accessible, interesting and enjoyable, so this is how I plan lessons; and because students learn in many different ways I always tailor sessions to fit individual students' needs, and will move forward at a pace that suits them. I encourage students to ask questions as much as possible; this is how we learn, and is the basis of foundations of science and maths. I also offer full support by email in between lessons; this is especially useful in the run up to exams.
