I am a passionate, reflective and enthusiastic primary teacher with 25 years' experience, holding a BA Hons Primary Education. I am also a specialist literacy teacher with Approved Teacher Status supporting children, young adults and families. I hold a MEd in Teaching students with a specific learning difficulty and am a professional member of the British Dyslexia Association. I work closely with children, teenagers and young adults who struggle with literacy or have a dyslexia diagnosis, helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive. I also support parents in understanding how to help their child, and I train other tutors in effective, evidence-based dyslexia strategies. My approach is warm, personalised, and rooted in proven methods—because every learner deserves to succeed.
I love tutoring students from around the world and have achieved excellent results, building positive, encouraging relationships with those who need a bit of extra support or a greater challenge. I tailor each lesson to target the specific skills they need to develop, creating engaging, purposeful sessions. With a deep understanding of the difficulties many learners face, I provide a warm, supportive environment where students feel safe, motivated, and empowered to grow.
I have taught in various primary schools and held numerous roles such as SENCO, Literacy Co-ordinator, Numeracy Co-ordinator and Acting Principal. I have a wealth of experience differentiating lessons to suit the needs of all children including those who have SEN. I have over 5 years' experience of teaching English and Maths to children from age 6 to 11 as a professional tutor. I also tutor children with dyslexia helping them access the curriculum and fulfil their true potential. I have an excellent reputation for my teaching style, thoroughness, and ability to help children exceed their own and their parents' expectations. I am experienced at teaching both one-to-one and in small groups, face to face from my private classroom and online.
I also have 2 years' experience tutoring undergraduates, supporting them with their study skills, many of whom have a specific learning difficulty. We focus on organisational skills, academic writing and memorisation techniques alongside exam revision. My expertise has enabled these young adults at university to acquire new skills and to achieve high marks.
My approach is calm, encouraging and evidence-based, rooted in understanding how each child learns best. I don’t just teach – I build confidence, celebrate progress, and equip children with lifelong strategies for success. Whether your child struggles with literacy or numeracy, I offer expert guidance that makes learning feel achievable and rewarding.
I also provide specialist dyslexia teaching, assessing all new learners to identify their literacy strengths and areas for development. This initial assessment forms the baseline against which I can regularly monitor progress. I create a personalised teaching programme based on the initial assessments and as I deliver the programme I regularly reflect, monitor and adjust it making sure it meets the needs of the learner. All lessons are explicitly taught in a structured, cumulative, multi-sensory sequential manner with each lesson building on the previous ones. Each lesson comprises phonics, alphabet knowledge, reading, writing, spelling and working memory activities. The learner will experience success in every lesson, which in turn develops their self-esteem. I believe in instilling a positive growth mindset to encourage resilience, motivation and confidence allowing children to reflect on their learning and development. I build relationships with parents and guardians, rooted in mutual respect, providing progress reports and suggesting how they can support their children at home.
I support university students especially those with dyslexia or literacy challenges to master their study skills and achieve academic success. From essay planning and time management to reading strategies and note-taking techniques, I offer tailored, one-to-one support that builds confidence and independence. My calm, non-judgemental approach helps students feel understood and empowered, making uni life more manageable and less overwhelming.
