I have recently retired from teaching chemistry in south Ayrshire and working as a part time as an associate lecturer in education at the University of the West of Scotland.
I have been an SQA marker for higher & national 5 chemistry assignments for many years.
Since joining first tutor all of my students have past their qualifications and many of them have achieved much better grades than they previously could have aspired to.

Tutoring Experience

I taught science & chemistry to all secondary year groups for nearly 40 years.
In the last 6-7 years I produced extensive course materials and assessments for the new curriculum for excellence qualifications in chemistry.
I have been tutoring for many years and over the last 2 years have become experienced in on line tuition.
My 2 most recent Tutees studied with me for 2 years and both just gained A passes in Higher Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach

I am willing to meet on zoom to prepare students for their new qualification classes by revising work in which they lack confidence or feel that they have a development need.
I am also happy help them to get an early start with new content.
I can provide short videos and power points to support learning.
I am happy to set work and mark it providing feedback for improvement.
I have a cheerful, informal approach when teaching young people.
I understand the competing demands of their other subjects and negotiate with respect to this.
However I expect them to work hard to achieve their best results.
We discuss sections of the course to determine problem areas, I use an electronic whiteboard to assist with explanations and illustrate difficult concepts. We would also work together on practice questions and past papers.
Tailored input close to internal assessments will ensure that young people achieve their full potential in these.
