I am a friendly and experienced English Language/Literature tutor. My background is in the arts: literature, history, philosophy, English language and painting.
I've been teaching for quarter of a century and cover different age groups and learner backgrounds. My area of expertise is in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and have taught in both private and public sector organisations. Added to this I have a working knowledge of the GCSE curriculum in English Language & Literature for the AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and CCEA examination boards.
Currently I teach at undergraduate level at The University of Sussex and am an examiner for both The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and Cambridge main suite speaking module.
I am a supportive and intuitive tutor who develops a good rapport with students.
Please note: I am registered with Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) and have certification as proof.
Through my professional teaching practice I have used a variety of teaching approaches, whether it be teacher/student led or more focussed as in task based learning activities. In the often challenging classroom environment, I have also developed strategies to deal with differentiation and delivered a variety of programmes successfully.
Overall, I have obtained excellent results when preparing students on both intensive and long term courses. This is evidenced in strong achievements in examination grades.
