Teaching is more than just my profession—it’s my passion. With over 16 years of experience as an AS/A Level & IGCSE History and English teacher, examiner, and tutor, I take great pride in helping students unlock their potential. Holding a Master’s in Education and with extensive experience working with SEN learners, I tailor my approach to suit each student’s unique needs. My goal is to build confidence, sharpen analytical thinking, and transform essay writing into a skill they can master. Through engaging one-on-one online tutoring, I empower students to approach their exams with clarity, precision, and self-assurance.

Tutoring Experience

With years of experience teaching History and English in schools, I now focus entirely on one-on-one online tutoring, helping students excel in A Level History (AQA, OCR, CIE) and GCSE History & English (AQA, Edexcel, CIE). My bespoke lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, honing their writing, analysis, and exam skills. Every student has access to a personal Google Classroom with additional resources for a seamless learning experience. In addition, I hold a Master’s in Education from the University of Pretoria and a PGCE, with a deep knowledge of historical topics, including archaeology and classical history.

Tutoring Approach

My method of teaching focuses on what my student needs and follows their learning style as much as possible.

For our initial lesson I ask for you to write an essay based on the topic you will be examined upon or to submit a previously marked essay from your classwork. My reasons for this are:
* To assess where your weaknesses are
* If it is already typed up I will comment and use tracked changes to identify the elements that are missing and that examiners will be looking for.
*Once I have done the suggestions and detailed comments our lessons will centre on correcting the essay together to pull it towards an exemplar essay that you can use for future reference.
*The process of correcting and editing done by yourself with my guidance is crucial to you understanding why the changes are necessary and how this improves your overall writing style.

Overall, once this initial essay is completed I work with my students by providing them with past paper questions so the writing process is applied consistently all the while improving their essay writing skills which can also be used with any other essay orientated subject you may be studying.

With most of the lesson focus on essays you will:
* Learn how to understand exactly what the question is looking for and how to approach it
* Learn how to write introductions that get you grades but more importantly they give your essay direction and focus (to achieve more grades).
* How to select relevant information that answers the question and structure your main body paragraphs be it for a standard essay or a source based essay.
*You will be taught the correct analysis of sources as well as the language used to present your findings/arguments in your essay
*You will also be shown the difference between a source and interpretation
* You will be shown how to conclude your essay ensuring that it remains focused on the question and meets examiner expectations.
* By following the above steps, your essay will flow logically whilst answering the question and remaining within the exam time constraints.
* I also make use of Google Classroom for additional content which you can download and reuse, as well as other methods of approach for content retention.
