I am an outgoing and approachable teacher with nine years of experience teaching in schools across London, as well as a further two years of teaching experience in Spain and Colombia. I hold a first class honours BA from the University of Bristol, with distinction in spoken Spanish.
I hold an MA in translation (with distinction) and now work as a literary translator from Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
I have lived in Brazil, Colombia and Spain and spent extended periods of time in Cape Verde, Cuba, Mexico, Mozambique and Guatemala.
I have a PGCE from the UCL Institute of Education, one of the world leaders in education research and training. I am also an accredited Lead Practitioner with the SSAT and a Specialised Leader in Education with the Department for Education.
I have extensive experience of tutoring and teaching all levels, including children from age 5, adolescents, teenagers and adult professionals. I am a qualified IATEFL English as an Additional Language teacher and have taught English in Spain and in Colombia, including individual classes, small groups and larger groups of students with a variety of needs.
I have worked as an MFL teacher and leader in secondary schools for the past nine years, but have also worked with local feeder primary schools to plan and deliver their primary curricula. I have a strong knowledge of KS2 and KS3 National Curricula in languages. I work as an examiner for Pearson Edexcel and AQA to enable me to achieve the best possible outcomes for my students. I am also able to teach iGCSE courses, as well as AQA and Edexcel A Level courses.
My creative approach, drawing on a range of resources such as authentic texts, exam style questions, adverts, short films and news articles, ensures that students are engaged in learning but also build cultural capital and an understanding of the Hispanic/Anglophone world.
Through modelling, repetition of key structures and regular vocabulary revision, students build confidence and are able to approach their language learning in a metacognitive, independent manner, as well as have fun.
Text fear and reluctant writers are tackled using a range of translation and sentence building games, always employing verbal rehearsal before putting pen to paper.
I use online classroom platforms and technology extensively to set tasks and assess students, as well as tools such as Kahoot!, Quizizz and Quizlet.
