Hi! I'm Beth, a second year Cambridge mathematics undergraduate with a great passion for the subject and teaching. Whether you want to feel more confident in your mathematical ability, stretch yourself for the highest grades or establish strong mathematical foundations I am able and happy to help. I am chatty and friendly, able to communicate topics clearly and in interesting ways, and have a love and enjoyment of maths that shines through in my teaching.
I have been tutoring for nearly 4 years at the secondary school level. Past tutees have said I am friendly and approachable and that they "really enjoy" sessions, even when they "have never been a big fan of maths before". I achieved a comfortable 2.1 in first year university, 98% in my GCSE maths, 99% in my A level and 96% in my further. I am confident in maths communication, practicing often while at university (whether mentoring younger students or in supervisions), and can explain concepts in a variety of ways.
I teach online (over google meet) for hour long sessions, every week or every two weeks depending on what the student wants. Before a session I will ask what topics a student wants to go over and prepare questions to do together. However, in the session I am very flexible to go over anything that the student has found tricky or confusing and would like to draw more attention to. I will give a brief (or extensive depending on what is needed) overview of the topic at the start of the session, before guiding the student through standard questions to ensure they have a strong foundation, and then stretching questions to take them further. I put an emphasis on the student doing and talking through maths to help feel more confident in the subject, and we will move at whatever pace suits them best.
