I am an (early) retired head teacher with over 35 years experience teaching and tutoring in both the State and Independent sectors. I have a very wide range of experience - from Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Adult Education. I have taught almost all subjects in the Primary sector as well as the core subjects in Secondary schools, in addition to teaching English and Classical Civilisation at A Level and teaching English and Classical Studies to adults. I have consequently tutored in many of these areas also and have a particular strength in Independent Schools' entrance exam preparation and Study Skills - the latter enabling improved learning and understanding. I enjoy literature and drama, having played many parts in plays and pantomime over the years as well as enjoying sport, running regularly and trying to play Par 3 golf!

Tutoring Approach

I believe strongly in empowering students, discovering how they learn best and building strong relationships with them and their families. I am very patient and will often try a variety of ways to ensure learning and understanding are secure; my maxims would be 'Learn the Play Way' - so enjoying sessions is a key factor in making progress - and 'Work hard, Play Hard' - work comes first! I will always feed back to parents/adults at the end of sessions and advise when support materials or other changes would help.
