I’m an Engineering science student at Oxford University in my third year. Alongside my studies I'm passionate about helping others succeed, whether that’s academically or in a team setting like a sports team. My experience as a student, a team captain and a JCR representative have given me all the tools to create a supportive challenging engaging learning environment.
As a student in engineering, I have attended bi-weekly tutorials for the past 2 years where we discuss physical phenomena, complex mathematical relationships, and the inner workings of many machines. From this, I have learned strong tutoring styles which I have used to help people succeed in their GCSE’s. In my previous year at university, I was a football captain for a college team. This involved captivating people’s interest at the start of the year, leading engaging training sessions, and using concise communication when playing the game itself. I was also the Ethics and Environmental rep for the JCR at my college, during this we incentivized eco clothes washes, established soft plastic recycling and organized repair café visits. These leadership experiences have honed my ability to communicate clearly, manage time effectively, and engage with lots of people, all skills I have used when tutoring.
As a student, I understand the common challenges or mental blocks that occur that prevent learning, with a process lead approach that splits tricky problems into smaller ones I can help students overcome this. I will use several tailored questions in my session to challenge the students and keep them engaged. I will use detailed explanations of content alongside this to boost learning.
