Asma

Home Tuition for English in Bolton

I graduated in 2010 with a BA Honours in English Literature and Education Studies as a mature student whilst bringing up my two young children. Since then I have enjoyed working as an English teacher in a number of independent and mainstream secondary schools throughout the North West. I am an ECT mentor (early career teacher) and I am currently completing my NPQLTD qualification, an area which I am very passionate about and committed to. I am also a GCSE examiner for AQA and I have also marked the GPS ( grammar, punctuation and spelling ) year 6 SATs paper for Pearson. I am also currently on an exciting journey in publishing my first non - fiction childrens’ book.

Please note: I am unable to travel to homes with pets.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored in both 1:1 and small groups for both primary and secondary aged pupils since 2006. I have worked both privately and for a number of tutoring companies. I have also helped and supported pupils preparing for private school entrance exams ( Bolton School)
More recently, I have tutored a close family friend who was failing to attain a grade 4 in her GCSE English Language and was unable to enroll on a TA course without a grade 4. We practised and perfected exam style questions on Section B, Q5, creative writing in Language paper 1 which has a 40% weighting in terms of overall grade and ultimately my tutee successfully attained a grade 4.

Tutoring Approach

I adopt an individualised approach, which is bespoke to my pupils’ needs and personalities. I understand that an array of factors such as lack of confidence and anxiety can hugely impact an individual’s performance. To bring out the best in my pupils, I consistently utilise positive reinforcement and adapt a highly personalised, nurturing and empathetic approach. To me creating a conducive learning environment is of utmost importance in enabling any pupil to thrive.
I utilise teaching methodologies which have been backed and recommended by academic research. This includes recall and retrieval activities to strengthen and cement knowledge and understanding in pupils’ long term memory.
To aid ks4 pupils to develop their language analysis skills, I use quotation explosions supplemented with the “I do” “We do” and “ You do” method, a teaching technique I researched as part of my final dissertation during my PGCE. To develop extended writing skills I often use word mats, sentence starters and writing frames which are gradually taken away once more confidence and independence has been established.
