Online English and Psychology Tuition

Hello!
My name is April and I'm originally from Canada but have been living abroad in the United Kingdom since 2016.
My educational background includes a variety of subjects, such as psychology, media, communications, and hospitality, however English Literature is my strongest subject.
Currently, I am working towards completing my PhD in information management, which covers the topic of how young people in the UK and Canada experience persuasive and informative election campaigns.
Professionally, I have experience in journalism, hospitality, education, and communications.
In my free time, I have also participated in many forms of creative writing, such as poetry, screenplay writing, and prose.

Tutoring Experience

In Scotland, I worked as an ad-hoc lecturer for a public relations first year university module, where I delivered lectures, conducted in-class tutorials, answered student questions, and marked student assignments.
I have also been a peer tutor previously at my college in Canada between the years 2002-2004 and 2008-2010, where I worked with students on an individual basis to improve their writing and English-language skills.
Additionally, I have over 20 years' professional experience in writing, editing, and proofreading, primarily for corporate clients and community media outlets.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach is student-centred and follows a constructivist paradigm, with a liberationist sensibility. Within this approach, the student guides the learning sessions by voicing their individual strengths and weaknesses, as a starting point from which to plan lessons, and thereby facilitate the best learning outcomes. Students are guided through critical thinking and concept-mapping exercises, in order to grasp ideas and make meaningful connections between them. In this way, learning is reinforced as the interconnections between these ideas are reinforced conceptually.
