Hello there, my name is Anya and I have been tutoring English for 6 years alongside my university studies. I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in English Literature from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2017. I then went on to undertake a Master's degree in Victorian Literature, Art and Culture (also at Royal Holloway) and graduated with a Distinction in 2018. I have had two years out of studying, during which I have taught English, History and Drama in a secondary school. I am now studying for my PhD. Within four years I will attain my doctorate and hope to pursue a career in academia, lecturing English at university level. Throughout this process I intend to continue private tuition in my chosen subject.
Teaching experience:
- Privately tutored English - both in person and online - from KS2 - university level (ages 10-18+).
- Taught English in a secondary school (The Hayling College, Portsmouth) for 2 years.
- During my time working at The Hayling College, I provided 1:1 tuition to underperforming students to help them achieve desired GCSE grades.
- Assisted aspiring Oxbridge/Russell Group university students in entry exam/interview preparation.
I believe tutoring style needs to be adapted to the specific needs of each given pupil. Therefore I think it is important that at the beginning of any tutoring partnership to establish the goals and expectations of the tutoring. Some of the remits within which I have worked in the past are:
- The underperforming student that wishes to reach a specific grade or level for further education or employment requirements.
- High achieving pupils who seek academic stimulation beyond the confines of the national curriculum.
- Pupils who struggle to engage with the subject of English, or the way it is taught in a classroom setting (specifically students who struggle with social engagement or who are dyslexic).
- Students who wish to work on a specific area within the subject of English, who require a limited amount of lessons to achieve their goal.
- The university student that is struggling with consistently being on the cusp of a grade boundary (how to push your 2:2 - 2:1 or 2:1 to a First).
Having considerable experience with a variety of pupil 'types' makes me the ideal individual to help with whatever area of English tuition best suits you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like any further information on any of the above.
