I’m a full-time, professional private tutor with a proven track record of helping students succeed in GCSE and A-levels. Since starting in 2010, I’ve accumulated well over 10,000 hours of experience in 1-to-1 tuition with over 400 students.
I’m approachable, knowledgeable, engaging, and empathetic.
For my A-levels, I studied Economics, Politics, History, and English at Brighton College, before earning a joint honours degree in Politics and Philosophy from Bristol University. I’ve been a private tutor ever since. Outside of academics, I play football a couple of times a week and enjoy traveling during my time off from tutoring.
I’m Enhanced DBS checked and still have some availability for the 2025 exams.
I have well over 10,000 hours of 1-to-1 tuition experience, primarily with A-level students, but also at GCSE and university level. With in-depth knowledge of the content and a personable, patient approach, I’ve been fortunate to build strong relationships with many of my students, often supporting them across multiple subjects and guiding them from their A-levels through to university graduation. Most of my tutoring these days is conducted online via Zoom.
I’ve worked with students across the UK, especially in Brighton and London, as well as internationally, including Commonwealth countries that use the major UK exam boards. I have also helped younger students in Hong Kong, Singapore, and China prepare for interviews and 11+/13+ entrance exams (ISEB) to schools such as Wellington, Eton, and Harrow. During this time, I've gained extensive experience supporting a diverse range of students, including those with specific learning challenges, helping them build confidence and overcome difficulties in areas such as academic content, study skills, and motivation.
I'm very familiar with all the major exam boards (AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and Cambridge IGCSE) and make sure to stay up to date on their specific requirements. I also have plenty of experience helping with academic writing, including history coursework, university research projects and essays, and master’s theses.
My sessions are usually 1 or 1.5 hours, once a week. As exams approach this will often become more frequent and I’m flexible in terms of fitting in extra sessions around the clock, as and when needed. The structure of our sessions will depend on the individual student’s needs, which is usually discussed and agreed upon by the end of the first session. Typically, they will involve some combination of: essay-writing feedback and advice; revision support and tailored recommendations; troubleshooting, gap-filling and expertise in content coverage; and exam preparation. If needed, I’ll assign work for students to complete, which we can then review together in the following session. Over time, I've often found myself providing general mentoring, helping students develop study skills, revision strategies, time-management techniques, and overall academic growth, with a focus on patient, directed motivation, especially for those overwhelmed by content or revision challenges.
In my online sessions, I make full use of screen-sharing to go through past papers, mark schemes, essay feedback, and a wide range of resources to enhance the learning experience. While I always have my webcam on, students are welcome to choose audio-only if they'd prefer. And I’m happy to communicate between sessions with both parents and students via email, phone, WhatsApp, or any other preferred method of contact.
Content: I focus on helping students truly understand the material, not just memorize it. Sessions emphasise the potential application and evaluation of content, with a strong real-world context to make it more relevant. I use active discussion and troubleshooting to address any gaps in knowledge and understanding, especially with complex concepts. Sessions can either align with ongoing class work or address specific content. I also make sure that I tailor sessions to meet the requirements of the exam board, ensuring students know how to apply their knowledge effectively.
Essay Writing: I guide students in mastering the art of effective essay writing: from planning and structuring to presenting and developing arguments, all while managing time efficiently. My feedback is detailed and sensitive to the specific exam board’s requirements. Sessions often include reviewing written essays, providing feedback, and collaboratively planning future essays. This way, students have solid, clear, well-structured essay plans to use for revision, helping them feel more prepared for exams.
Exam Preparation: Exam preparation is key, with a focus on understanding the specific requirements of different question formats. We go over past papers, mark schemes, and examiner expectations to build familiarity and confidence. I also help students develop effective revision strategies, focusing on structured, engaging study that builds both subject knowledge and exam technique. Encouragement and working together to create (and keep to!) revision schedules are important parts of my approach, ensuring students stay on track and feel motivated to succeed in their exams.
