I am currently head of sixth form at a private school. I am moving schools in September to teach law and English and look at PSHE.
My A Level law and GCSE teaching skills, experience and abilities are best suited helping students who really need that extra support. I am able to engage my learners and I have a confident and skilful approach when dealing with complex subject matter. I have had considerable experience of teaching A Levels, GCSE’s and many vocational programmes. I have had particular success in relation to A Level Law, GCSE Business, Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Criminology, A Level Government & Politics and GCSE English. I also teach on the Certificate/Extended Certificate in Applied law and I am currently an examiner for this course.
I always approach my teaching with the mind-set that students need to get the most out of their studies and it is critical that the learner journey is as fulfilling as possible. With this in mind, I always plan my lessons with the overriding objectives of students mastering the legal or political content and being fully aware of how the subjects will be examined. It is essential that learners not only understand the complex subject matter but also that they gain the skills that will guarantee success in the formal examination assessments. I always set regular realistic assessments and pride myself in giving detailed and meaningful feedback to learners to enable them to learn from and benefit from their mistakes. I often use past A Level examination questions in assessments and these are accompanied by examiners reports which also enable my learners to understand what will be expected from them. I also have a vast array of legal resources that are specifically aimed at stretching my learners. These include subject handouts and model answers. I am absolutely committed to the learning experience of my students and not just the gaining of academic qualifications. I have experience of teaching a number of different examination board law specifications and I am up to date with developments in this area. I am currently teaching the OCR A Level law syllabus and the AQA politics syllabus. I would describe my teaching style as dynamic and strategic in which my delivery caters for the needs of all learners and I pride myself on my differentiation skills. I am always very keen to develop my pupil’s evaluation skills and I always draw on current legal and political events. I would consider my strongest additional teaching subjects to be A Level politics and GCSE English, having had considerable delivery and results success in these subjects in the past.
