I am an early retired teacher who misses the interaction of students. I have worked in very different schools and at different levels. I enjoy travelling but a recent grandchild has meant I stay more at home now.
I started teaching in Newham, London, in a comprehensive school. I taught maths, science and was responsible for computer studies when I left.
I went to Istanbul for 4 years and taught maths at a prestigious private school before coming back to teach science and computer science in Luton.
In my next post I helped to set up an International Study Centre in Bedford being responsible for maths, science and ICT. I also marked the KS3 Science SAT papers.
I completed my formal teaching career in Uskadar American Academy, Istanbul, where I taught maths and was responsible for the Prep maths course.
The teaching approach depends on the student.
Some need taking back to basics as they understand very little of what they are studying. Others need extra help understanding particular topics and help with their current work. This does not mean doing their HW or coursework, but guiding them through the tasks.
Some need work on exam questions and techniques but this doesn’t replace their study on the course.
