I am a friendly, professional and highly qualified teacher of French, German and English as a second language, able to adapt to any level with bespoke lessons to suit your needs. I am very experienced in preparing students for GCSE, A level and the IELTS English language qualification.
My specialist area is preparing students for UK public exams run by Edexcel, AQA and Eduqas exam boards, in particular French and German GCSE and A level, but I also really enjoy supporting students learning English as a second language.
As a qualified languages teacher with a Masters degree in Languages in Education from the University of Bath and many years of teaching experience, I am well equipped to support you in achieving your language learning goals.
My tutoring style is based on encouragement and praise to create a positive learning environment. I like to gain a good understanding of the preferred learning style of each student, in order to adapt my lessons to match the interests or abilities of each individual. I have a non-regional, clear accent and can use my language teaching skills effectively to improve all communication skills in English.
My main goal in providing one to one tuition is to enable each student to achieve their best. My job satisfaction comes from receiving feedback like this from a year 13 student this summer:
"I have really enjoyed our lessons and will miss them, you've helped ignite my passion for languages after a year of not feeling very confident with my German, I’m so grateful for all the help you have given me. Especially with all the extra time you gave marking essays and translations and checking things for me, almost instantly!" (Rebecca)
I have 14 years of mainstream school and college teaching experience. After my PGCE teaching qualification from The University of Warwick, I taught for two years in a comprehensive school, teaching French and German to GCSE and A level with students from Years 7 to 13 and I then spent 12 years teaching French and German to A level at The Sixth Form College in Solihull. During this time I coached many students through challenging exams and I am always responsive to the learning needs of every individual. I also have considerable recent experience of one to one tutoring which includes working with mature learners who enjoy developing their language skills.
I believe that everyone has the ability to learn a foreign language and learning should be an enjoyable experience. It's really just a question of exposure to the language, a little and often, an understanding of its structures and patterns, and confidence building in communication. My tutoring style is based on encouragement and praise to create a positive learning environment. I like to gain a good understanding of the preferred learning style of any student and enjoy all aspects of language teaching, including speaking, grammatical competency, reading and writing skills (specific to exam board requirements) and I like to keep up to date with cultural knowledge.
I am very happy to provide tutoring using Zoom but if you prefer face to face tutoring this can be done at my home or if you live within 5 miles of my home, I would charge 45p per mile if travelling to you.
