Annabelle

I am a very passionate primary teacher who helps every student to succeed in their own way. I love to help people of all ages with English language learning and development, as I have lived in a multilingual setting for 3 years. Outside of teaching I am very creative as an artist and writer and I enjoy using these skills in my work.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked in schools for 6 years, and I decided to qualify to teach in 2021, teaching at Outstanding and Good Ofsted rated schools. For 4 years I have taught primary in both British schools and International schools, teaching the full British national curriculum from year 1 to year 6. I have taught in top private international schools for the past 3 years so you can be assured that you will receive a high standard and quality lesson. I specialise in literacy, phonics and reading with students who have English as an additional language.

For the past 5 years I have tutored online and in person with students age 6-13 working on their English and maths skills.

I have a First BSc in Sociology and I have tutored university and A level students to work on their study skills and revision to succeed in this subject.

Tutoring Approach

In my lessons with primary students we use discussions, pictures, books, and short films to inspire ideas in children for their ideas in writing. I enjoy getting to know the students’ interests so that I can adapt the lessons to make them excited and engaged in their learning. These methods allow me to teach the necessary skills in the British national curriculum explicitly while having lessons that the students enjoy.

Using these methods, I have tutored repeat students for 3+ years and watched them become fully confident in their abilities.

My lessons follow the structure of:
- warm up or review of a previous lesson
- learning a skill
- practicing the skill together
- independently using the skill
- a review at the end to discuss what next steps to take
This structure is usually the same each session so that the students know what to expect. I can offer specific sessions to focus on:
1) reading
2) writing
3) listening and speaking
or combined lessons with all skills integrated.

My goal as a tutor is to help students become resilient and to give their families assurance that their child will be confident in their subjects at school and able to use their skills outside of school.
