I am a PhD-qualified lecturer, postdoctoral researcher and tutor in English Literature, and creative writing and I'm available for private tuition and group work. I have a degree in Philosophy from King's College London and a master's degree in literature and creative writing from the University of Essex. I am also qualified as a tutor for speakers of English as a second language. Through my research, I have acquired a specialist knowledge of how to support neurodivergent students.
I have taught English Literature and Creative Writing in higher education as well as English for speakers of other languages. I work across all ages and levels but particularly enjoy teaching GCSE and A-level English literature and language because this provides the basis for a lifelong love of language and can boost overall confidence and critical thinking.
I offer a mixture of lively and engaging learning materials in different media to enhance understanding of the technical components of the English language and support meaningful discussions of approaches in literary studies. I will encourage a student to develop and enhance their judgements while making them aware of alternative interpretations and how this supports the construction of a convincing argument. I will quickly learn to identify the student's strengths and challenges and illuminate the steps they need to take to reach higher grades. Through my research and teaching experience, I can equip students with a deeper understanding of the role of English literature in creating cultural and historical change.
