I am a London born artist, writer and teacher of English as a foreign language. I have a postgraduate degree in art theory and continuing my practice as an artist and curator, whilst teaching.
My artwork focuses on the use of recycled materials and sculptural form, incorporating textiles and imagery.
I also enjoy drawing and painting, particularly architecture and from the human figure.
Language fascinates me and learning Spanish and French has aided my language teaching skills.
I am widely traveled, having lived in Latin America for a year and a half and enjoy learning about new cultures and political, environmental and social issues.
ENGLISH
I have extensive experience teaching English as a foreign language to both adults and children. Following my CELTA qualification (distinction), I have taught in private institutes and to private students of all levels in London, Argentina and Guatemala.
I have experience teaching Business English to a wide range of clients with focus on everyday office correspondence, presentations and business writing. I have also delivered teacher training presentations on British pronunciation. My experience with younger learners includes ages 8-18, including a young boy with learning difficulties whose mother gives the following reference,
‘She was FABULOUS with him. Patient with him when he was an unwilling squirmy worm. Like many children who struggle with learning, they are easily distractable. She always found a way to cheerfully bring him back to task. I found Anna to be 100% reliable and responsible. I've been very happy with her and her work.’
ART AND CRAFT
I teach drawing, painting sculpture to private students both children and adults and have experience of teaching essay writing and preparing portfolios.
Above all, classes must always be student orientated, focusing on the needs, personality and interests of the student. From this base, I establish a dynamic, enjoyable learning process focusing on specific goals and skill development.
I am a patient and understanding teacher who encourages students to build confidence, a fundamental base for progression. We study real life situations which incorporate a diverse range of materials and media. For English as a foreign language I work with students in all language areas; grammar, pronunciation, reading, writing and listening, focusing on areas for improvement. I believe that language learning should be fun and create enjoyable lessons in a supportive environment where the student feels at ease.
In preparing for exams at school, I feel some children lose contact with the power and beauty of the English language and so I aim to engage their imagination, whilst focusing on communication skills and grammatical accuracy.
With art, I stimulate creativity whilst teaching specific techniques. I am well educated with an extensive background in the arts field and am skilled in encouraging the student to drive forward their work following their personal interests and talents. I believe that creativity and artistic skill is in everyone- it is just a case of bringing it out and developing the artistic eye. I use a wide range of media: sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, whilst philosophy, art theory, poetry and film can also play their part in the lessons.
I am an approachable teacher with a sensitivity to students' needs.
If you wish to send me an inquiry, it would be helpful to know as much as possible about your course or subject area so I can let you know sooner, if I am able to help you.
