I trained at King Alfred's College in primary education, specialising in Geography and science. I have 30 years experience during which time I taught all year groups from reception to year 6 in a variety of primary and prep schools, created dynamic schemes of work, delivered stimulating and outstanding lessons, built and nurtured relationships with pupils and their families and successfully coached pupils for selective entry at 11+
I was a class based deputy head for 13 years before being appointed as Headmistress of a prep school. I have now stopped working full-time but wish to continue teaching in a different setting.
I live in Kent with my three legged Siamese cat called Monty. I enjoy all sorts of hobbies including sewing, cooking and reading. I love teaching and always want to make it fun both for my pupils and for myself.
I believe that we all learn in different ways and that different learning styles cannot always be accommodated in the classroom. I am able to approach learning from different angles in order for the pupil to understand the concepts being taught. Many state schools do not prepare pupils for selective tests and do not cover verbal and non- verbal reasoning. I am able to offer a complete exam preparation scheme for 11+ selection tests.
I was a Special Needs Co-ordinator for a number of years and can offer support to pupils with learning difficulties.
Lessons are usually given in my home where I provide an environment for children to be effective, enthusiastic learners, preparing for their life in future society
I ensure the highest standards possible are attained in a caring, stimulating happy and dynamic setting
The uniqueness of every child is celebrated, and their needs, strengths and potential are met.
High moral values are promoted; everyone is valued
I devise an individual learning programme for each child
Most pupils have a one hour lesson once a week
Parents are welcome to come in and have a coffee while they wait
Children learn when they are confident, feel safe and are successful.
