Anita

My name is Anita and I live in Cambridge with my two sons aged 20 and 17 and my dog.
I completed my degree BSc (Hons) Sociology and Psychology at the University of London in 1988 and my Masters degree in Sociology and Criminology in 1998. I gained my PGCE in 1999.
I went on to complete my Masters degree in Cambridge . I specialised in sociology and psychology writing my research dissertation in criminology for which I was awarded a first.
I have since carried out several pieces of social science research both in the fields of education and criminology at the University of Cambridge.
In 2003 I qualified as an Advanced Skills Teacher and I have worked as a mentor working with trainee social science teachers.
I trained to be a teacher at the University of Cambridge in 1998/99. I very much enjoy running, cycling and weight training. I also enjoy films and travelling and being with my children and friends.

Tutoring Experience

I worked for 17 years in the Sixth Form of a large secondary school (11 - 18 year olds). I was head of department for sociology and psychology and taught the A level in both of these subjects as well as the psychology course on the International Baccalaureate diploma. Alongside my teaching job I also examined for the AQA exam board and the OCR exam board for both A level sociology and A level psychology.
I have a very broad subject knowledge for both sociology and psychology to post graduate level. I am aware of the requirements of both the AQA and OCR exam boards and I have attended examination training with both boards.
In addition I held the post of progress coordinator supporting and overseeing the completion of UCAS applications with Year 13 students. For the past 9 years I have been working as a teacher of sociology and psychology at a smaller sixth form college and tutoring privately.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that 1:1 tuition should be tailored to the needs of the student. The tutor and the student should initially discuss the best methods of learning for the learner and then work to review the teaching and learning as the lessons progress in order to ensure that the student is continuing to benefit.
I am a flexible tutor who can adapt my teaching to the individual student and work at whatever pace is appropriate to reach the student's full potential. I am open to suggestions from the student or if preferred I am happy to completely lead the lessons
Creating model exam answers is an excellent way to gain essay writing skills and I am happy to mark work and give thorough feedback on where extra marks could be gained.Where appropriate discussion is a fantastic way to gain subject knowledge in both sociology and psychology and both the subjects lend themselves to using current examples in the society around us in order to explain certain concepts and theories.
My fee is £60 per hour.
