I have been working at an outstanding secondary school for 15 years as a qualified higher level teaching assistant. I also work in art and teach art. By having a visual, creative approach I use drawing and my own created posters to get students to produce mind-maps, diagrams and other learning devices to support their learning.
I can intrigue students by using a multi media approach to make the subject matter engaging.
I work one to one with students going over the lessons, mentoring secondary/GCSE content and finding fun and creative ways to impart and share knowledge. My lively and friendly nature coupled with a kindness, patience and understanding puts students at ease. I have a good sense of humour snd fifteen years of working with special needs students has given me the ability to approach learning in unique and accessible ways.

Firstly I try to get to know your child - to form a good relationship and gain trust. Let them open up to me what they like and what they find hard. By understanding this I can move forward, sharing and imparting knowledge. I am very creative and share display posters along the way. These I have produced for my school and can be put up at your home. I encourage a multi approach to looking at literature as well as step by step sessions to embed understanding.
I have an infectious, fun personality and am always upbeat. I like to make the student feel valued and praise them when they are doing well to gain confidence.
At every level we make lists, create visuals and produce a piece of writing. We may brainstorm an idea together, come up with suitable vocabulary and devise a structure to guide and consolidate the learning. If a student is finding a subject hard, the approach can easily be switched to try new but tried and tested alternative methods of learning.
I have worked with gifted students, dyslexic, visually impaired, Down’s syndrome, school refusers, depressed and anxious teenagers, autistic and physically impaired students in an outstanding, mainstream secondary school.
From the very brightest to the less able my approach is the same. Understanding where I can make the most difference and bringing out the best in each and every student with patience, subject knowledge and creativity.
Students feel safe and content in my company -
I do not judge but always find a way to create a happy, productive, engaging learning environment.
During both lockdowns I have worked online mentoring students, creating posters and Pinterest boards and finding new ways to engage my students. This has been a hugely valuable experience to promote online learning.
I am computer literate and can help advise regarding online programmes and resources to assist every student.
