Maths and Chemistry Teacher in Barnet

I am a highly motivated and passionate tutor with a strong academic background. I am currently a third-year Economics student at the University of Warwick, and I have recently completed my exams. I start my graduate scheme in Tech Consulting for June 2024.

I possess a solid foundation in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and critical analysis. Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently demonstrated a strong aptitude for understanding complex concepts and effectively communicating them to others from my GCSE results through to my degree. These skills, combined with my passion for education, make me a dedicated and resourceful tutor well-equipped to support students. I believe in creating a tailored and engaging learning experience for each student, recognising that everyone has their own unique learning style and pace. By adapting my teaching methods to suit individual needs, I aim to create a comfortable and supportive environment that all students feel comfortable expressing all of their academic concerns.

I also enjoy playing the piano in my free time, and often at university attend different society events ranging from Asian Society Balls to Warwick Economics socials. I really enjoy spending time with my friends, reading and having fun. I have a balance of academics and past times, which I believe is key to success.

I am eager to share my expertise and help students achieve their full potential. Whether it's clarifying challenging concepts, refining exam techniques, or providing additional resources, I am committed to guiding students toward success. I stay updated with the latest educational approaches and resources to ensure that my tutoring methods remain effective and relevant.

Tutoring Experience

Since beginning tutoring in year 12, I have taken on the role of a private tutor. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with a total of 10 students consistently, spanning from year 2 to year 11. This diverse range of students has presented me with varying abilities and unique challenges, allowing me to grow as a tutor and adapt my teaching style accordingly.

In my tutoring journey, I have encountered students with different academic needs. Some students required ongoing support, both during our lessons and with the homework assignments I provided. For these individuals, I offered consistent guidance and ensured they felt supported throughout their learning journey. On the other hand, I also worked with students who displayed remarkable academic potential. To further challenge and motivate them, I tailored their lessons to encompass more advanced and intellectually stimulating content. Seeing their progress towards achieving higher grades has been truly gratifying.

Forming connections with my students has been an essential aspect of my tutoring experience. I take pride in establishing professional relationships with each and every one of them, creating a safe and comfortable space for learning. By fostering a positive and encouraging environment, I believe that students can truly thrive and reach their full potential. My proudest moment was witnessing the transformation of a struggling grade 4 math student achieve an impressive grade 7 under my guidance. The impact tutoring can have on a student's life fuels my passion for helping others succeed.

I have also taken on the role of an economics mentor for two students in the year below me as part of an ASOC (Asian Society) initiative. Throughout my second and third year of Warwick, I have provided constant guidance and support for these students in both their studies and their personal lives. I have helped them to adjust to university life involving friends and societies, and have advised them on how best to approach the challenging degree.

In addition to my formal tutoring experiences, I have always taken pride in providing academic support to my younger sister, who is two academic years below me. From a young age, I have eagerly shared my knowledge and assisted her with her studies.

It has been an immensely rewarding experience, allowing me to make a positive difference in the lives of my students.

Tutoring Approach

I firmly believe in tailoring my teaching approach to suit the unique needs of each individual child. Recognizing that every student learns differently, I am dedicated to delivering lessons in a manner that resonates best with the student's learning style. As I work with a student over a few sessions, I make it a point to gauge their preferred learning methods, allowing me to plan subsequent lessons accordingly.

In my experience, I have found that answering practice questions extensively plays a pivotal role in achieving academic excellence. I emphasize the significance of exam technique, as it often poses a challenge for many students. Rather than solely focusing on the subject matter itself, I prioritize equipping students with effective exam strategies, particularly at higher levels of education.

For students who struggle to grasp concepts, I dedicate focused sessions to thoroughly cover the topic, addressing any concerns or difficulties the student may have. To reinforce this, I provide relevant questions as homework, which we then review in subsequent sessions. This approach allows students time to raise any queries, reinforcing their understanding of the topic.

Furthermore, I encourage students to teach the concepts to me as if I were someone who had never encountered them before. This exercise not only enhances their understanding but also helps me assess their comprehension and identify any gaps that may require additional attention. By assuming the role of a teacher, students gain confidence in their knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
