I have been teaching Chemistry for more than 10 years’ at top HE institutions in London and tutoring to both children and adults.
I graduated from Imperial College London and worked as a Research Fellow at both Imperial College London and University of Cambridge where I gained comprehensive first-hand knowledge of innovative areas of Chemistry, Physics and Materials Science such as superconductivity, magnetics, mass spectrometry, fuel cells. I use this expertise to show my tutees the interconnection between different branches of science and to provide examples of practical applications of the taught material.
For 6 years I led a BA/PG module on Conservation Chemistry at City and Guild London Art School. This was very challenging and rewarding to teach students with vastly different backgrounds and abilities: for example, recent top of the class engineering graduate from Cambridge and mature civil servant who studied chemistry several decades ago.
Each student required individual approach in order to master the subject.
I taught advanced courses of Chemistry, Physics and Materials Science at Imperial College London and had extensive supervision experience of final year research projects. I am extremely proud that my students were successful in defending their PhD theses!
I have been doing one-to-one Chemistry tuition for more than 5 years at GCSE and AS/A2 levels as well as at university level (UCL and Queen Mary University). My students consistently show improvement of their academic performance and high marks at their reports and exams.
Firstly, I assess the tutee’s needs and abilities by having a general discussion on the subject and prepare an individual teaching plan. My teaching focuses on ensuring that the tutee has a comprehensive understanding of the subject and not only short term memory of the pages from a textbook! Then I patiently guide the tutee to solve numerous practical exercises of the taught materials with varying level of difficulty. Finally, the theory and practice are consolidated and tailored to a particular target: exams or academic report.
I encourage my tutees to develop strong logical and problem solving skills as well as critical and creative thinking as those qualities are paramount in scientific disciplines. I also show interdisciplinary nature of Chemistry by relating the taught concepts with Physics and Biology and motivate tutees to go beyond the standard curriculum and discover the connection between the taught material and their everyday experience.
