Hey there! I'm Andrew, 33 years old, and live in Glasgow, Scotland. I specialise in tutoring philosophy and the social sciences.
Here's the thing, I've never actually left education! I've been tutoring and advising students non-stop for 10+ years now, in a formal capacity, since 2014.
I hold a degree in BA (Hons) Applied Social Sciences (Distinction), which I obtained in 2014; further, I hold a MA in Philosophy (Merit), which I obtained in 2019.
I previously worked as a Study Skills Tutor for 5 years and now currently as a Student Development Adviser for the past 5 years. I'm currently employed full-time at the University of Glasgow's world-renowned Adam Smith Business School.
Because of my study skills and productivity background, I have 3 mains strengths:
1) Simplifying often overly-complicated theory, concepts, and frameworks.
2) Equipping students with the necessary key learning skills to critically research and critically write their own piece of writing.
3) Ensuring sessions are evidence-based, well-structured, relaxed and stress-free.
Most importantly, for me, the tutor-tutee relationship is most important. That is, a collaborative, well-structured, and goal-driven learning session.
10+ years experience in the further (college) and higher (university) education sector as a tutor and advisor.
5+ years experience as a Study Skills Tutor - specialising in 1-1 appointments (seen over a thousand students).
5+ years experience as a Student Development & Wellbeing Advisor, where I am currently employed full-time at the Glasgow of University's world-renowned Adam Smith Business School.
I have a holistic, evidence-based approach to learning:
Professional yet informal communication style.
Always a positive, encouraging learning environment.
Integrative learning, i.e., understanding theories and concepts in different contexts and disciplines.
Experiential learning, i.e., focused reflection on what we have discussed.
Inquiry-based learning, i.e., we solve key problems together.
Semi-structured, goal-based, and individualised learning sessions.
