Hello I am Andrew and I am an experienced qualified Science teacher specialising in Biology and Chemistry. I have taught in three different schools and understand that every student is unique and so is their learning journey. I have a degree in Biomedical Science and enjoy seeing student's progress and reach their potential. I currently work in the Department for Education but am still passionate about helping students thrive.
I have taught as a subject specialist in Biology and Chemistry teaching both at AQA GCSE Triple level. I have also taught AQA GCSE Combined Science and KS3.
I have run exam preparation workshops and revision sessions to small groups of students, targeting specific skills such as required practical's and the 6 mark questions for example.
It is important to me that learners feel comfortable and enjoy their tutoring and learning.
Firstly it is important to understand which areas are the student's strengths and where there is room for improvement. This is done via a collaborate approach.
I am a strong believer in Rosenshine Principles. It is important to review content regularly, introduce new material in small manageable steps and modelling is key, for example what a question is asking and the approach to answering it.
I often use the method of I will do a question myself and then we will do one together and finally the student does some independent practice. Scaffolds are available for particularly tricky tasks and understanding is regularly checked.
