I obtained a 2.1 Honours degree in History and have recently completed a Masters degree in Classical Studies with a Merit. I undertook my History and Masters degrees as a mature student, while working full time. I have worked in both private businesses and also government administration in the heritage environment sector. My interests are all things historical with a main focus on Classical Civilisation as well as the Medieval world, European Reformation and the Age of Enlightenment. Travel, gardening and walking my dog are also things I love to do!
In previous careers I taught adults and children art and craft techniques in daytime and evening classes for a private company. I also ran a Mother & Toddler group, organising activites and fundraising events. My later career has been in the heritage environment focusing on the co-ordination of grant projects, statutory planning casework and heritage at risk. I was also responsible for regularly organising the training of new and existing staff on work processes and databases. I have successfully also tutored my own children through history GCSE and A-Levels, and advised others. As a mature student, I gained skills and valuable insights on approaches to studying that will benefit other students.
My approach will be tailored to each student's needs and no one person learns in exactly the same way. I can help with short term projects or tutor throughout the academic year to help the student achieve the best results possible. I can particularly focus on how to approach and understand essay questions, formulate a working essay plan (outline and detailed) and how to organise research. I will help a student to achieve their potential so that they can achieve a good understanding and sound knowledge of the subject, developing their own theories and arguments.
