From 2014 - 2022, I was the Principal and owner of Razzamataz Durham; a children’s part-time performing arts school and now, I invest in property. I graduated with a Masters in Acting from the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts, London and received a first class BA Hons degree in Performance for Live and Recorded Media at Teesside University. I'm an avid sports fan and also enjoy cooking, going to the theatre and traveling. I think it is very important to appreciate other cultures and customs and to learn another language. I have participated in exchanges hosted by families in China, Switzerland and Turkey and have been involved with a German sports exchange for the last twelve years. I love working with children, especially in a creative environment. I am patient, approachable and very enthusiastic!
I have a rich wealth of experience working with children of all ages and abilities including SEN students. In addition to my academic tutoring, I have been employed freelance to coach children aged 2 to 16 in acting, dance and singing. I have also independently run popular after school performing arts clubs in a number of primary schools and facilitated drama workshops in a secondary school in Bulach, Switzerland.
I have worked for Integrating Children, a registered charity that aims to support, nurture and develop the lives of disabled children. I found my role as support worker very rewarding and it was a joy to see the children become confident and more independent.
As a creative person, I enjoy using an innovative and resourceful tutoring technique. I find that students favour and benefit from a hands-on, interactive approach which makes learning exciting and stimulating. I put a lot of effort into creating tailor made sessions to suit the individual’s requirements and also strive to find out what is trending with their age group to keep lessons current and engaging. For example, I would start with a variety of fun games and activities then apply the student's new understanding as we work through traditional textbooks, exam questions and practice papers that are set by the school curriculum.
I think it is important to quickly establish a friendly, positive atmosphere where the student feels at ease and confident to attempt questions and topics they find challenging. My role as Principal of Razzamataz has provided me with a rich insight into best practice when working with children, topics delivered and how they learn. I am committed to encouraging my students to realise their potential and take pride in their achievements.
