Graduate of Cambridge University, having graduated top of my year with First class honours and a Master's (MPhil) degree in History with a Newton Scholarship.

I achieved A*A*A*A*A*A*Aa at A level, including 100% in History, >95% in English and Classics and 98% in my AS level in Latin. I self taught my A levels in Classics and Maths, achieving an A* in each, and also my AS Latin.

I achieved this by extensive research on exam board websites, past papers and publications - having read almost every examiners' report published for my subjects, I now know what they are looking for! I aim to use this recent experience of the trials of examination technique to provide my tutees with tips and techniques for success.

I can also offer mock interviews, advice and information to students applying to Oxford or Cambridge to read English, History, Classics or related Humanities subjects.

Travel costs: Please note that I do ask for an additional 50p per mile per session (distance as calculated by the First Tutors site), just to cover travel expenses; this is of course not required for online tuition. If you have to cancel sessions on the day there is a 50% cancellation fee.

Tutoring Experience

As well as commercial tutoring work, I have spent many hours as a teaching assistant in school, focussing primarily on Humanities classes and working with students of all abilities - from the very high achieving to those with learning difficulties who need lots of carefully directed support. I have also provided introductory Latin classes to students, and many informal tutoring arrangements with others in my school, particularly in Maths and History at A level.
I also return frequently to my school to conduct Oxbridge interview preparation for prospective applicants to Oxford and Cambridge.

Tutoring Approach

Learning doesn't have to be dry, dull and academic; my tutoring involves a light-hearted, humorous approach to help students to engage with the subject. This is, of course, balanced with a focus on exam past papers and techniques to impress the examiner - the two are not mutually exclusive, and by keeping tutoring sessions varied and diverse, progress is easier, more enjoyable and longer lasting. Of course, I can plan sessions focussing on areas of weakness, or alternatively developing general subject knowledge or exam techniques - this depends on the wishes of the tutee.

Having only recently been through these examinations, I can empathise with the challenges of long revision sessions burning the midnight oil, but this isn't the best way. As part of my tutoring sessions I will help you to develop focussed revision techniques which will help you to make efficient use of your revision time.

As well as ongoing tuition, I can offer intensive revision courses which cover the whole of a GCSE, AS or A level subject in 6 or 8 lessons of 90 minutes or 2 hours (depending on course and student's ability).

I can also offer intensive tuition days (9-5) covering the essentials of a GCSE, AS or A level subject. These cost £200 and take place in your home. I'm happy to travel up to 1hr away for these days at no additional charge.
