My name is Alexander and I am a MChem Chemistry graduate and full time tutor. I initially began tutoring alongside my research at the University of Leicester, and after I had taught my first two students from their consistent U grades and getting them both to an A I was hooked. I realised that tuition gives the flexibility a student needs to truly flourish, and I could offer that in a way that was tailored for the students.
As a tutor I am completely dedicated to my work and take it very personally. I will always make time to talk with parents and students about plans and how we will get the most out of your time with me. I also take the time to ensure my students are able to utilise their time well at school or college.
It is my goal to challenge every student I have, and I will always aim for that coveted A grade. I believe with the right planning and hard work, a student can reach that. I continually develop a bank of personalised exam style questions designed to develop and nurture the mindset that will both bolster their confidence and attain those sought after grades.
I expect my students to be committed to the work and hand in anything we have arranged to be done between sessions. However, I do allow for some leniency as other
college work and life does occasionally need extra consideration.
My students' success is important to me, so I will always go the extra mile to realise their potential.
I have been tutoring for just over four years. Each year has been extremely rewarding and I have taught students through AQA, OCR and Edexcel courses, with success across the board. I offer multiple plans for tutoring, such as: intensive schemes, summer prep for the transition from GCSE to AS, regular weekly sessions, home school weekday sessions and intensive revision courses closer to exams.
During my years of experience, I have worked with students from a variety of subject backgrounds. I am also experienced in providing a tailored programme to ensure that those subjects that might be undermining the learning, like maths, are taken care of. This helps to foster confidence in students that may otherwise be held back by other subject knowledge.
My range of teaching experience extends beyond tutoring, and includes things such as placements teaching revision groups in school to full lessons in science. A past job included going out to schools and running lab sessions so the students could get their hands on some equipment which they wouldn't be able to have access to in school such as a mobile infrared spectrometer and DNA forensic analysis.
I would consider my approach quite a unique one; commit the smallest amount to memory, build a toolbox of rules and fundamental knowledge, understand and link the material and be ready for anything an examiner could throw at you.
Science is a multidisciplinary field, and can be approached a number of ways. I am in the strong belief of making use of the resources given to me such as linking the other subjects the tutee is studying. This gives access to higher level understanding and the ability to score the higher marks in exams.
I am also confident in teaching maths to supplement the sciences, and I am fully equipped to develop my tutees’ ability to use mathematical techniques to enhance their skills.
