I am a retired, charted, Mechanical engineer. I have worked in a wide variety of industries including defence, oil & gas, and construction. I remain interested in a wide variety of practical technologies, rebuilding small marine diesel engines, carpentry and trading in and refurbishing 18th and 19th century French Mantel Clocks.
Early in my career, soon after graduating as a Mechanical Engineer, I lectured for 4 years in a College for Advanced Technical Education. During that period I studied part time and qualified as a Teacher. I taught a spectrum of subjects during my time at the college including: Engineering Drawing, Thermodynamics, Physics/Engineering Science and Applied Technology. I have also recently compiled Mechanical Engineering tutorials for EngZig, a start-up offering online learning to Engineers.
It has always been my experience that if the student, or the teacher for that matter, does not have a really fundamental grasp of first principals then the cause is lost.
