Hi, I’m Alex, a 27 year-old highly-experienced private tutor specialising in A-Level, GCSE and KS3 Mathematics. Prior to doing what I absolutely love full-time, I obtained a 1st class honours degree in Mathematics from the University of York, and achieved A*’s in A-Level Maths/Further Maths (from Langley Park Boys School, a state school in SE-London/Kent). I am extremely familiar with all major exam boards such as Edexcel, OCR (+MEI), AQA, CIE, WJEC etc. I also provide assistance with the Junior UKMT Maths Challenges - a couple of my previous students made the prestigious Olympiad (only the top 1,200 students in the UK get selected for this).

Tutoring Experience

I’ve been tutoring privately full-time since 2018 (part-time many years before too) and have greatly enjoyed my work. Every student is different ability- and personality-wise, so I have had plenty of time to learn how to adapt my approach over the last decade or so. I’ve had several students who have ADHD, dyscalculia, dyslexia etc. - these present their own challenges of course, but each time we’ve managed to navigate and overcome such learning difficulties. For me, the number one thing is making the student feel comfortable about learning mathematics, and eventually actually start to rather enjoy it!

It’s not unusual that my students will move up sets if they are in the KS3 stages. We always make sure that preparation is done before any internal examinations by working through a mixture of typical and slightly more challenging questions that could come up. If a topic list is provided, I create mock tests for the students.

Taking some common words from my reviews, my tutoring style can be described as well-organised, professional, calm, enthusiastic, reliable, patient (to name a few). I always like to make sure that parents remain well-informed about progress, and I set tailor-made assignments every week to make sure that the tutee can cement ideas learnt in our sessions.
