I'm Alex, and I'm a private tutor.
As a keen academic and learner, I'm always seeking to broaden my own knowledge base too, and I genuinely enjoy teaching and passing on knowledge to my students. In my spare time I'm always found with a new book, catching up on the latest critically acclaimed film or TV show, or on the yoga mat!
I'm a professional actor and performer. I recently graduated from LAMDA where I trained in Classical Acting.
I'm also a writer and published poet.
Thank you for considering me!
I have covered AQA, OCR, Edexcel, IB exam boards in English and Theatre, as well as the Cambridge Pre-U English examination.
My teaching experience began at 16, teaching drama classes at my local drama centre in Acting, Verse & Prose and Public Speaking. This started in large classes of up to 15 pupils before progressing onto individual one-to-one tuition. Often this teaching was geared towards examinations in LAMDA, Guildhall and UKA, as well as public festival performances or school shows. Once at University, I also began tutoring locally in English and Drama, as well as Interview Preparation, CV and Essay Writing Skills. I've continued to tutor privately ever since I moved to London 10 years ago and have a wide range of experience and skills, allowing me to precisely adapt my style for each student and their needs.
Primarily, my approach to tutoring is incredibly sensitive to each student's uniqueness - every student has strengths and weaknesses, goals and ambitions - I help students to feel empowered to achieve their aims and provide them with tools which they can use beyond the scheduled lesson. I believe every student has the capacity to do well if they feel prepared and confident in their material. To do this, I seek to enable independent learning, strengthening natural skills within a student to increase confidence, and building up weaker areas in order to foster a healthy foundation of knowledge and critical thinking. I believe a holistic approach is best, and exposing a student to a broad range of texts, ideas, and theories is a great way to generate passion for the subject.
