I've been a lecturer in Sixth Form and Further Education Colleges for many years-and it's a job I love! Keeping up to date with subject knowledge is important. I am an ambassador for Parliament's Education Unit after their Teachers' Institute residential training and regularly attend the seminars hosted at Parliament. I've been able to use my knowledge and research skills to write academic texts, provide background information for television and run courses for adults at University level. Tutoring Experience

I've taught History and Government and Politics in Colleges graded as 'Outstanding' by OFSTED including work at one of the top A level Colleges in the country. This has enabled me to get the best out of students from those who needed a boost in their self-confidence and shown that they have the ability to achieve to those who had very specific goals in mind whether it be Oxbridge or specific vocations such as law. I am currently a Senior Examiner for A level History. I am also an examiner for Government and Politics AS/A level.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that teaching is about attaining individual potential. Tutoring is always about meeting individual needs. I'm fortunate in offering subjects that are by their nature fascinating and tutoring is very much about being able to convey the interest in what is being taught. Being involved in the design and teaching of Study Skills lessons has helped me focus on how we learn as well as the content based side to learning. Success is also about mastering exam technique, how to understand the demands of examination mark schemes and how to use knowledge to gain the highest marks. My considerable examining experience has given me insight into what skills and knowledge examiners want candidates to produce.
