Verbal, logical, visual or aural. What’s your learning style
Many of our tutors suggest a first evaluation/assessment lesson when taking on new tutees. This may seem obvious; they need to know what areas you need help with, discover your weak points, but did you know that many tutors also like to discover your personal learning style?
Learning styles are categorized into the following groups:
The verbal (linguistic) style.
Here we are talking about the written and spoken word. You find it easy to express yourself, both in writing and verbally. You like crosswords, limericks and tongue twisters and are always eager to find the meanings of new words. You belong to the academic category where you can succeed in a wide variety of subjects. Professions linked to the verbal style are poets, writers, teachers and translators.
The logical (mathematical) learning style.
People in this category will probably succeed in the sciences, computer programming, accounting or detective work. You like to prove your point with a logical example or statistic. You tend to work through problems in a systematic way, creating numerical targets and budgets. Do you always look for rational explanations? Do you enjoy logic puzzles and strategic games? If the answer is yes, you belong to this category.
The visual (spatial) learning style.
You organize information through image, pictures, colours or maps. Your "forte" is spatial sense which gives you a good sense of direction. The whiteboard is your best friend, you love drawing, scribbling and doodling and the use of colour is of utmost importance. You belong to the category of architects, photographers, designers, navigators and inventors.
The aural (auditory-musical-rhythmic) learning style.
People with an aural learning style usually like to work with music and sound. Your sense of pitch and rhythm is very good. You notice the music playing in the background of films, TV shows and other media. Having music play in the background while you study can actually help you memorize texts or learning techniques. You prefer to read text aloud and the use of recorded information helps more than the written word.
Knowing your own learning style can help you improve the excellence of your study skills, so when making a request through First Tutors, tell your potential tutors what your learning style is. This will help the tutor prepare the lessons with appropriate material, suited to your needs.
Best of luck!
