Maths: a gateway for many careers
If you have a teenage child, they they're sure to be considering what career they want to follow in the future. Many students, by the time they reach 16, may have a good idea of a few of the careers they would like to follow, but are perhaps unsure which one they'll settle on.
This is one of the reasons why it's so important to pick the right subjects at A-level. The canny student picks subjects which will open up several career paths to them so that they're not restricted when they eventually come to choose their jobs.
Maths is definitely one of those subjects which can keep career paths open - even a few years down the line, if your child decides to change careers in their twenties and thirties. This is for three main reasons:
1) Maths is required by many of the science-based careers: engineering, pharmacy and sometimes medicine to name but a few. Employers in these fields will want to see a good grade in Maths A-level to be assured of a student's aptitude and logical brain.
2) Maths is a traditional academic subject that is well-respected and recognised by all of the top universities.
3) Maths tuition equips students with a solid set of skills as well as the ability to think in a disciplined, logical and methodical manner. What employer would not welcome those traits?
