Personal Description:

Hello! I am an Ontario certified teacher (OCT) employed as a full-time teacher in the GTA. In 2018, I completed the Concurrent Education program at York University where I graduated with a BA in English and a BEd. I am certified in several subject areas, but specialize in English and literacy development. I focus on enhancing writing skills, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, essay writing, and more. I also hold ESL certification (English as a Second Language) with the Ontario College of Teachers and possess my TEFL-TP certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language - Theatre and Play). Additionally, I have several years of experience working as a scorer for Primary/Junior EQAO and the OSSLT.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked extensively with K-12 students both within the classroom and through private and semi-private tutoring. For several years, I was a tutor at a local learning centre working with students of various age groups before transitioning into private tutoring. In my current role as a secondary teacher, I teach grade 9 - 12 English (including de-streamed courses) and ESL levels A to E. I have alto instructed the after school OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test) preparation course within my school board.

Tutoring Approach:

I strongly believe in meeting students where they are at, especially when working with language development. Having worked with students both in the classroom and as a tutor, I've recognized that students thrive when they are provided appropriately challenging tasks that offer opportunities to succeed. In my tutoring, I support students in learning various literacy skills - including vocabulary development, creative and academic writing, grammar and more - through both literature and real-world applications. I am happy to assist with both ongoing school work and/or provide new and customized materials to enhance their learning. No matter their starting point, I am confident that every learner can succeed and make steady progress towards their goals.
